Jalandhar November 1 (Jaswinder Azad)- DST sponsored 5-Day INSPIRE Science camp was held at Lyallpur Khalsa College on 1st Nov 2018. This is the fourth time college is organizing this camp with a view to encourage and inculcate scientific temper amongst students. On its 1st day chief guest Dr. V. P. Kamboj (Former Director CDRI, Biotech park, lucknow) was welcomed by honorable Dr. Gurpinder Singh Samra(Principal, lyallpur khalsa college), Dr . Arun Dev Sharma(Coordinator cum Head, Biotech), Prof. Arunjit Kaur(HOD, Chemistry), Dr. Manohar Singh (HOD, Comp Sci ) , Prof Jaswinder Kaur, ( HOD, Zoology), Dr. Santokh Singh (HOD, Mathematics) and Dr. Narveer Singh (HOD, Physics) . The chief guest was presented a bouquet and token of honour by the dignitaries. Principals of various schools were facilitated on this occasion for their active participation. Course manuals were released during the session. Dr. Arun Dev Sharma welcomed and addressed the students with his words of wisdom. He enlightened the students about benefits of science and technology in daily life. Global warming and frequent droughts that leaves a major impact on human life and agriculture were also a part of his talk. He discussed how biotechnology is useful on widescale. The main aim of the camp is to attract talent at young age to build innovative ideas. His words of motivation and encouragement definitely generated a thought process in all the audience. Honorable Principal Dr. Gurpinder Singh Samra expressed his heartiest welcome to one and all present in the auditorium. He emphasized that younger minds are easy to ignite and are the building blocks of the nation. He inspired the students to think out of box where he mentioned about a recent innovation- The foldscope and its various benefits. Our revered principal filled the air with his motivational speech inspiring students to achieve glory to their parents and nation. The eminent resource person, Dr. V.P Kamboj, addressed the audience on the topic “ Discoveries leading to innovations to mankind” He threw light on how accident and will power can lead to inventions and discoveries that can change the history of mankind. Various inventions were described like telephone, penicillin, vaccines, microwave, sewing machine. He constantly encouraged students to believe in the power of dream and be fully determined to fulfill the same. A recent invention was also mentioned where a student of class 10, Harshwardhan Zala, has made a lifesaving discovery of drones that have been useful in detecting landmines in the military. A right direction with a zeal to achieve the goal is the key stone to success said Dr. V.P. Kamboj. The session was concluded by thanking the dignitary and with their reciprocal interaction between students and the mentor, followed by lunch and practical sessions being conducted in different departments of college. Along with the dignitaries distinguished people present were Dr. Gagandeep Kaur, Dr. Gurpreet Singh, Dr. Harsharan Singh, Prof. Gobind Ram, Dr. Inderjeet Kaur, Prof. Vijayeta, Prof. Shubhneet Kaur, Prof Navjot kaur, Prof. Rajvir kaur, Research Fellow Priya along with staff members. Stage was efficiently conducted by Dr. Inderjeet Kaur.
