5 Day UGC-CPE Faculty Development Program Enters into its Fourth Day at KMV

Enlightening Sessions on MOOCs Opened New Vistas for the Teachers
Jalandhar December 14 (Jaswinder Azad)- Kanya Maha Vidyalaya – The Heritage and Autonomous Institution, Jalandhar has organized a 5 day UGC-CPE Faculty Development Program on ”Innovations and Latest Developments in Academia and Research”. The FDP has entered into the fourth day with the scholars and academicians elaborating on the concept of ”MOOC”. The inaugural session of the fourth day was addressed by Dr. Parteek Bhatia, Associate Professor, Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering, Thapar University, Patiala. The topic of his talk was ”Development of MOOC”. During his session, Dr Bhatia gave a presentation of the key arenas pertaining to the MOOC( Massive Open Online Courses) and explained that what is MOOC, what is the importance of MOOC in today’s world and that how a MOOC can make a teacher connect to millions of students with the help of Internet. He explained that MOOC is a model for delivering learning content online to any person who wants to take a course, with no limit on attendance.
The second session of the day was also addressed by Dr. Parteek Bhatia. During his interactive session, Dr Bhatia demonstrated to the participants that how they can create their own MOOCs with the help of different softwares known as Adobe Video Presenter and Litecam. . He also practically demonstrated all the steps that a registered person needs to accomplish in order to create his own MOOC in these softwares. The third session of the day was also addressed by Dr. Parteek Bhatia. In the session that started after the lunch break, Dr Bhatia further elaborated on the various dimensions of MOOCs and also told the participants that MOOCs are the new and advanced medium of learning as it removes all types of barriers that exists between a teacher and a student. He explained that how all the world renowned universities have made a very suitable use of MOOCs for imparting the education to the students residing in the different parts of the world. As MOOC is a one of the outcome of the Technical Revolution that we are witnessing in today’s world, the MOOC will prove to be a new teaching-learning method in which the teacher has a power to provide online video lectures to the students. As we all know, that the videos are one of the interactive mediums therefore, through MOOC the medium of video can be made used for the educational purposes and can provide the students with the required information in a very interactive and new way. The last and the fourth session of the day was addressed by Dr Vinod Sharma, Principal, College of Education, Jalandhar. The topic of his talk was ”Role of Yoga in Education”. During his talk, he emphasized n the importance of Yoga in daily life and said that Yoga is not only about routine exercise but it is related to the every aspect of our life. He also demonstrated various Yoga exercise to the participants and made them aware about how yoga can lead to a very peaceful and serene life. Principal Prof. (Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi averred that the Faculty Development Program will prove to be a lifetime experience for the teachers as teachers are being exposed to the new arenas of teaching learning methods in this FDP. She also emphasized on the fact that KMV provides a great opportunity for all the teachers to develop themselves as KMV provides a suitable atmosphere for the proper growth of teachers as well as students. She also apprised that the fifth day of the FDP will also witness the presence of many more acclaimed academicians and scholars.
