5th International Yoga Day has been celebrated on the campus of Lyallpur Khalsa College

Yoga DayJalandhar June 21 (Jaswinder Azad)- 5th International Yoga Day has been celebrated on the campus of Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar. Dr. Gurpinder Singh Samra with large number of students performed yoga. Yoga trainer Mrs. Rekha Uppal from Bhartiya Yoga Sansthan performed and moderated various yoga exercises during this event. Principal, Dr. Samra in his message to the students said that the theme of this year’s International Yoga Day is climate change, so as teachers and students, it is our primary duty to be concerned about ever-evolving and ever-changing environment. Each student must plant at least one tree each year. He further said that a good mind rests in a good body and Yoga brings balance between body, mind and soul. Yogic exercises are a gift of India to the world.
Mrs. Rekha Uppal said that the word ‘yoga’ is derived from Sanskrit which means to join or to unite. Yoga is an ancient mental and physical practice which provides calmness, peace and confidence to a human being. It helps us to understand the purpose of life and how to survive in the changing environment. Yoga is practiced in various forms around the world. Interacting with the students, Dr. Jaspal Singh, Head of the Physical Education department said that International Yoga Day is also called World Yoga Day. For the first time, it was celebrated on 21 June, 2015. The proposal to celebrate the international Yoga Day had been approved by the United Nations by its 193 members on 11 December, 2014. A large number of NCC Cadets of 2 PB Battalion were participated in the exercises. Dr. Karanbir Singh, ANO of NCC Army Wing, Prof. Manpreet Singh Lehal, ANO (Air Wing) and other staff members also joined the cadets on this occasion.
