An extension lecture was organized by the Department of Zoology and Botany at Lyallpur Khalsa College

Department of Zoology and BotanyJalandhar September 2 (Jaswinder Azad)- An extension lecture was organized by the Department of Zoology and Botany under the aegis of Aristotle Society of Life Sciences on the topic “Zoonoses”. Dr. Satbir Singh Bajwa, Joint Director, North Region Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (NRDDL) was the speaker on this occasion. Dr. Gurpinder Singh Samra presided over the function and he rightly stressed upon the need of such extension lectures, where the student participants get knowledge about prevalence, diagnosis and prevention of diseases of epidemic nature. He lauded the efforts of the department. Dr Satbir, mainly focused on the importance of human and animal health and hygiene. In his impressive talk he emphasized on the causes, spread, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of various diseases. Viral diseases of importance were Swine flu, Bird flu, Rabies, Japanese encephalitis, Chickenguniya, Dengue, Nipah virus, Hepatitis E. Bacterial diseases included Tuberculosis, Plague, Glanders etc. He emphasized on the importance of home-cooked food to prevent common infectious diseases. Prof. Jaswinder Kaur, HOD, Zoology and Botany presented vote of thanks. On this occasion faculty members Dr. Gagandeep Kaur, Dr. Upma Arora, Dr. Heminder Singh, Prof. Surbjit Singh, Prof. Gurjinder Kaur and Prof. Devika Gandhi were present. Students of BSc (medical) Sem I, Sem III, Sem V, BSc (Biotech) Sem I and Sem III benefited from this lecture.
