Jalandhar November 1 (Jaswinder Azad)- The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma exhorted the schools and colleges to join Punjab government’s initiative of celebrating ‘Green Diwali’ this year to minimize the level of air and noise pollution in Jalandhar.
Presiding over a meeting with the heads of schools and colleges in administrative complex, Mr. Sharma said that to sensitize the students about Green, Clean and Safe Diwali, the district administration would hold a poster making competitions in all government, government-aided, private schools and colleges from November 2 to 5.
Mr Sharma added that all the schools and colleges should send their posters to the district administration by 2 PM on November 5 and best three posters on district and sub-divisional level would be selected by a four-member committee that includes DEO Secondary Mr. Satnam Singh, DEO Elementary Mr. Rampal, DPRO Manwinder Singh, and APJ College Principal Mrs. Sucharita Sharma.
He said on sub-divisional level, the administration would give Rs 1500 to the first best poster, Rs 1000 and Rs 500 for second and third best posters and similarly on district level, Rs 3000 for first, Rs 2000 and Rs 1000 would be awarded to second and third best posters along with certificates respectively .
DC hoped that the competition would leave a great imprint on the students and they would definitely become an active part of the campaign for celebrating Green and eco-friendly Diwali.
He asked the schools and colleges for administering the oath to the students to not to burst crackers and helping a poor family on the eve of Diwali. 3
Mr. Sharma told that the teachers must educate the students in the classes or in morning assemblies about the harmful effects of crackers. The Deputy Commissioner said that all of us should also plant saplings on Diwali which help to reduce the pollution level.
Meanwhile, Mr. Sharma along with officers, principals of various schools and colleges pledged to observe Green Diwali in the meeting.
On the occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) (Development) Mr. Jitendra Jorwal, ADC (G) Mr. Jasbir Singh, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM-II) Mr. Paramvir Singh, SDM-I Mr. Sanjiv Sharma, SDM Phillaur Mr. Varinder Pal Singh Bajwa, District Guidance Counselor Mr. Surjit Lal, and others were also present.
