Hands on Training for Cosmetology students organized by Chemistry Department of HMV

Jalandhar February 26 (Jaswinder Azad)- One day hands-on-training on physicochemical analysis of cosmetics was organized by R.Venkataraman Chemical Society of HMV. The Program was organized by PG department of Chemistry under the able guidance of Prof. Dr (Mrs) Ajay Sareen. The training was advantageous for the students of B.A. Cosmetology, B.Voc. Cosmetology and Wellness and Diploma in Cosmetology. The aim of this program was to make beauticians aware about an important physical parameter of cosmetics especially ‘pH’. Dr Neelam Sharma, Head of the department told students that pH of skin is less than 7.0, so the cosmetics should also be mildly acidic for healthy and glowing skin. Mrs. Asha Gupta, Mrs Samriti Datta, Ms. Sarabjot, Ms. Mehak and Ms. Harpreet demonstrated measurement of pH of commonly used cosmetics like shampoo, soap, creams, toner, moisturizer, lotion and foams. The pH of majority of cosmetics was found in range 5.5-7.0. Mrs Mukti and Mrs Bindu told that acidic peels should be used under the supervision of cosmetology experts under special supervision. Poster and Slogan writing competition was also organized on topic ‘Chemistry and Cosmetics’ by Mrs Deepshikha and Dr Ekta Khosla. Miss Swati of B.Sc III Non Medical was adjudged the best.
