HMV Jalandhar celebrates Green Diwali

Jalandhar October 29 (Jaswinder Azad)- Carrying forward its tradition, Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya celebrated Green Diwali- Light the lamp of compassion and Let it glow, under Innovative Cell with the collaboration of District Administration, Jalandhar. It was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner of Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma, IAS. Principal Prof. Dr (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen welcomed him with a sapling. The objective of celebrating Green Diwali is primarily to check air pollution caused by crackers and also to give a message of compassion and harmony to the society.
On this occasion, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma, IAS said that this is an excellent initiative taken by the college. “We all should observe eco- friendly Diwali. It’s our duty to make people aware about environmental pollution and hazards caused due to extensive bursting of fire. If farmers can give up stubble burning, why we can’t stop bursting crackers as a gift to our farmers? Let’s celebrate Diwali with compassion and harmony”, he added.
Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen said, “Last year we started this initiative and this year again students from the college have taken the initiative to spread the message among the masses by raising banners highlighting the message, ” Light the lamp of compassion and let it glow”. She urged the students to celebrate Diwali with less privileged class of society and spread message of compassion with giving them any gift from your pocket money. This will inculcate a feeling of caring and sharing. She further said that this Diwali, resolve the issue with any of your relation with whom you are angry and light the lamp of love in your relationship. She gave best wishes to students on behalf of DAV Managing Committee New Delhi and Local Committee.
At the end, all the dignitaries, Principal, staff members and students of the college exchanged saplings. They also took a pledge and held a rally in the college that they will not burn the crackers and inspire other too for the same. On this occasion, Diwali making cards competition was also organized. The winners of the Diwali Making Cards were awarded with planters by the Chief Guest .The first position was bagged by Ragini, second Position by Harvinder and third position by Vishali. On this occasion, District Counsellor Mr. Surjit Lal, DPRO Manvinder, APRO Jatinder Kumar, Dean Innovation Dr. Ramnita Saini Sharda, Ms. Mangla Sahni were also present. Stage was conducted by Dr. Anjana Bhatia.
