HMV organized Champions 2019

Jalandhar February 9 (Jaswinder Azad)- Continuing its legacy of inter-disciplinary excellence and overall growth of its students, Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, a distinguished name in the field of sports, organized its Annual Sports Meet ‘Champions 2019’ with full zeal and excitement. The chief guest of the occasion, respected Mr. Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Jalandhar was offered green welcome by Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen and Justice(Retd.)N.K. Sud, Vice President, DAVCMC and Chairman Local Committee. Dr. Sareen presented planters to Justice Sud, Sh. S.N. Mayor and Sh. S.P. Sehdev.
Principal Dr. Sareen who holds the honoured position of President Women Sports Association, GNDU, congratulated the Sports department for organizing this event. Highlighting the gentle and humble nature of esteemed Mr. Bhullar, Dr. Sareen told that he has brought about quality changes in Jalandhar just within a short period of time. She felt proud to share that HMV has given maximum contribution towards the lifting of National MAKA Trophy by GNDU. Proceeding further, Dr. Ramnita Saini Sharda, Dean Innovations unfolded the glorious saga of the achievements of the sports students in the Annual Sports report and enumerated the laurels brought by the sportspersons to the institution.
The inauguration of the Sports Day commenced with the hoisting of the flag by the guests followed by the recital of DAV Anthem. Mr. Gurpreet Singh Bhullar declared the event open and released colourful balloons carrying the sports mascot ‘Basanti Bubble’ into the air. The students of the college marched with military precision to the tune of the band from DAV Centenary Public School, Batala. The crowd cheered to the arrival of the torch carried by the athletes. Pledging to inculcate the spirit of sportsmanship, the oath ceremony was led by the Sports Secretary.
In his presiding address, Mr. Gurpreet Singh eulogized Dr. Sareen as a dedicated and visionary Principal and remarked that HMV is a name well-known and well-appreciated. Motivating the students he said that it’s a take-off stage for them to face the real challenges of life. They should be focussed and full throttled to scale greater heights. He was honoured by Principal Dr. Sareen by presenting a painting and memento.
The audience enjoyed the cultural performances, ribbon show and the mesmerizing Karate Show which left everyone spell bound. The students competed in a variety of events including lemon race, 100 mtrs race, three leg race, tug of war, skipping race, kite flying, long jump and many more. The sporting events were open to faculty and staff as well which added to the enjoyment. The event also witnessed the presence of Sh. Sushil Rinku, MLA and he was presented a planter by Principal Dr. Ajay Sareen.
The valedictory function was presided by Dr. Sukhdev Singh, Director Sports and Head GNDU. Ms. Rajwinder, an Olympian and an alumnae of HMV was the Guest of Honour. They were accorded green welcome by Dr. Sareen. Welcoming the guests, Dr. Ajay Sareen told that Dr. Sukhdev Singh was instrumental in winning the MAKA Trophy by GNDU this year. She applauded the students for displaying sportsman spirit in the events. Speaking on the occasion Ms. Rajwinder encouraged the students to give their best and thanked HMV for shaping her into a successful woman. Sh. Satish Kumar Mittal, Deputy Circle Officer, Sh. Bhupinder Jain, Chief Manager PNB and Ms. Jaspreet were also accorded a warm welcome.
Dr. Anjana Bhatia introduced Dr. Sukhdev as an illustrious sportsman who has won 74 medals in International and national events. He motivated the students to follow the precedence set by Ms. Rajwinder Kaur. He emphasized that sports lead us towards a healthy way of living. He appreciated the contribution of HMV in providing good sportspersons to the university. Sh. Satish Kumar Mittal also inspired and encouraged the students to power their mettle. Dr. Sukhdev was honoured with a painting and Ms. Rajwinder was gifted with a Phulkari and a memento. Sh. Satish Mittal was also honoured.
The coaches of different games were honoured by Dr. Sukhdev Singh and Principal Dr. Ajay Sareen. The entire gathering cheered for the winners and shared their pride as they stood at the podium, gracefully celebrating their victory. The distinguished sports students of the college were honoured. The flag was lowered by the chief guest. The stage was enthusiastically conducted by Dr. Anjana and Dr. Nidhi Bal. The Sports Meet was declared closed by Dr. Sukhdev Singh and it concluded on a colourful note by the releasing of balloons.
