HMV organized Seminar on Electronic Spectroscopy of Transition Metal Coordination Compounds

Jalandhar November 23 (Jaswinder Azad)- R.Venkataraman Chemical Society of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya organized a seminar on Electronic Spectroscopy of Transition Metal Coordination Compounds under the able guidance of Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.)Ajay Sareen. Prof. Dr.(Mrs.) Geeta Hundal, Head of Chemistry Department, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar was the resource person. Principal Dr. Mrs. Ajay Sareen welcomed the guest with a planter. Miss Harpreet Kaur introduced Dr. Geeta Hundal as a great educationist in the field of Chemistry. Dr.Geeta Hundal remained a brain pool scientist in Korean Research Institute of Chemical Technology. She explained the basic concepts of crystal field theory and its applications in daily life. She also gave presentation to explain electronic spectra of coordination compounds. She explained the use of Tanabe-Sugano diagrams in coordination chemistry to predict electromagnetic absorption spectra of metal coordination compounds. She described in detail about charge transfer transitions and nephelauxetic effect. She mesmerized the students by demonstrating experiments showing fascinating colors of coordination compounds. All the students took keen interest and felt highly motivated after having face to face interaction with Dr.Geeta Hundal. Dr, Neelam Sharma, Head of Chemistry Department, Mrs.Deepshika, Dr Ekta Khosla, Mrs. Asha Gupta, Mrs.Samriti Datta, Miss Mehak Sharma, Miss Sarabjot Kaur and other faculty members were present during seminar.
