International Literacy Day celebrated at HMV

Jalandhar 9 September (Jaswinder Azad)- On 8th September, 2018, International Literacy Day was celebrated by Planning Forum under Deptt. of Economics of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya under the able guidance of Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen. Mr. Jitender Jorwal, IAS, ADC Development, Jalandhar graced the occasion as the chief guest. Dr. Kanwaldeep Kaur, Dean Academics, Dr. Ramnita Dean Innovations and faculty members of department of Economics gave a warm welcome to the distinguished dignitaries. The celebrations were marked by a poster making competition in which students participated with great enthusiasm and showcased their talent and zeal for the spread of literacy drive in the society. The themes related to knowledge, education, literacy and empowerment were artistically presented on colourful posters. On this day, the faculty members of department of Economics made the students aware about the latest facts and figures relating to literacy scenario in India and discussed the far-reaching effects of a literate society on various development parameters. On this occasion, Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen highlighted the need for upgrading the levels of quality education among students in an endeavour to make India a knowledge power. Chief guest Mr. Jitender Jorwal appreciated the efforts of the Department of Economics in spreading awareness about the significance of a literate world. The first position in the competition was bagged by Hindhiya Rai. Ruksana Bano won the second position. Third position was won by Megha and consolation prize was bagged by Pooja. Incharge of Planning Forum, Mrs. Jyotika Minhas, Mrs. Chandrika, Ms. Shallu Batra, Ms. Harmanu and Ms. Sukriti were present on the occasion.
