International Workshop on Syntheses of Literatures at HMV

Jalandhar December 3 (Gurkirat Singh)- An International Workshop on Syntheses of Literature was organized at Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya by the Departments of Hindi, Punjabi and English under the motivation and vibrant directions of Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen. Principal Dr. Sareen, Mrs. Navroop and Mrs. Mamta welcomed Mrs. Kusum Sharma, the Presiding Guest with a planter and a phulkari. Guest of Honour Mrs. Rita Sekhon was also presented with a planter and a phulkari. The resource person, Mrs. Sushma Malhotra, Retd. Asstt. Principal, New York City, United States was also gifted a planter and phulkari by Principal Dr. Sareen and Dr. Ramnita Saini Sharda. Mr. Ved Vyas Malhotra and Dr. Sarabjit Kaur Sohal, President Punjabi Sahit Academy were accorded a warm welcome with planter and gifts. The workshop initiated with the lighting of lamp followed by the recital of DAV Anthem. Introducing the concept note, Mrs. Mamta, HOD English highlighted the conjugation of cultures and languages into world literatures. Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen welcomed all the guests and the members of Senior Citizen Club who attended a 7-day Computer Workshop at HMV. Elaborating the concept of workshop, she said that literature is the expression of feelings and thus not restricted to language boundaries. She introduced Mrs. Kusum Sharma as a globally acknowledged citizen and a symbol of women empowerment. She also appreciated the efforts of the coordinator Dr. Nidhi Bal, Mrs. Navroop and Mrs. Mamta for the workshop. Dr. Ramnita Saini Sharda, Dean Innovation Cell and a poetess who wakes up with a poem written on her soul rendered a beautiful love poem. Mrs. Sushma Malhotra felt honoured and touched on coming to the workshop. She spoke on ‘Hindi as one of the world languages in the United States’. She detailed about the education system of America and STARTALK Programme. She has formed an Association of Indian American Educators which helps the Indian immigrants to earn credit in the American system. She has also published two books of poems and recited an emotional poem on love. In the poster session Dr. Sarabjit Kaur Sohal emphasized on the importance of literature in life. She said that literature improves and purifies the ideas and hence develop an enlightened mind set. She also recited poems for the audience. Mrs. Kusum Sharma expressed her thanks to Principal Dr. Sareen and organizers for the workshop. She remarked that words possess abundance of power thus our speech should be marked with wisdom, thought and conviction. She called the workshop an amalgam of three rivers. Mrs. Kuljit Kaur extended a vote of thanks and the workshop concluded with the National Anthem.
