DC orders officers to not leave the headquarters
Jalandhar 24 September (Jaswinder Azad)- In wake of the rising water level in rivers of state due to incessant rain, the district administration led by Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma today swung into action to safeguard the life and property of people in case of flood like situation.
On the directions of Deputy Commissioner, all the Sub Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) constantly kept a tab over the situation by regularly visiting the field. Mr. Sharma asked the officers to keep a regular check over flooding, local breaches of drainage channels or canals and ensure that all Sewerage Treatment Plants (STP) were working to full of their capacity. He also said all the Circle Revenue Officers to remain in field for tackling any sort of emergency.
The Deputy Commissioner categorically said that any sort of laxity in this work would not be tolerated at any cost. He also directed the Block Development and Panchayat Officers (BDPOs) to be fully vigilant in villages. Mr. Sharma said that arrangements must be made in such a manner that pumping of water, if any, was required then the BDPOs must get it done at panchayat level.
The Deputy Commissioner further said that the drainage department must ensure adequate number of JCB machines at their disposal for tackling any urgency. He also said that sandbags should also be arranged in large number to deal with situation arising out of excess water. Mr. Sharma further directed the SDMs to identify rehabilitation centres in the areas which were affected by high rain/floods.
The Deputy Commissioner said that SDMs must get report from their field staff for the areas affected and get the location of nearby schools or dharmashala. He said that the centres so identified should have drinking water supply (water cooler/RO) and electricity supply. Mr. Sharma also asked the officers to ensure provision of bedding and tie up with Health department at local level for malaria tablets general medicines.
Meanwhile, on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Sub Divisional Magistrates Mr. Paramveer Singh, Mr. Varinder Pal Singh Bajwa and Mr. Rajeev Verma today visited different flood prone areas under their jurisdiction. He asked the officers to Remain at head quarters and ensure that public announcements were made to make people aware.
