JALANDHAR CITY POLICE ARREST THREE PERSONS, SEIZE 4.5 KG- OPIUM

ACCUSED BROUGHT THE CONTRABAND FROM MADHYA PRADESH- COMMISSIONER OF POLICE
Jalandhar January 29 (Jaswinder Azad)- The Commissionerate Police on Tuesday arrested three persons including a student of BA second year and seized 4.5 kg opium from the truck they travelling in near on Nakodar road, Jandiala. The accused have been identified as Gurmel Singh (48) of Village Fatehgarh Sahnewali, Beant Singh (34) of Dalianwali in Mansa district and Sultan Singh (18) of village Rasoolpura in Rajasthan.
Addressing the media persons in a press conference, Police Commissioner Mr Gurpreet Singh Bhullar accompanied by DCP Investigation Mr Gurmeet Singh, ADCP-II Ms D Sudarvizhi told that inspector Resham Singh, the head of Jandiala Police Post was leading a police Naka at T-point Nakodar road in Jandiala and stopped a truck (PB05-T-9920) on suspicion. Mr Bhullar said that the team recovered 4.5kg opium from the truck and took three of above-mentioned occupants into its custody.
The Police Commissioner told in preliminary interrogation Gurmel revealed that he is the owner of the truck and had gone to Madhya Pradesh (MP) to deliver apples brought from Jammu and purchased the opium from Agar town of MP. Gurmel is also a drug addict and started smuggling along with the driving profession, he added.
“Similarly, Beant Singh is already facing a drug case (400 gm opium) in Gangapur City, Rajasthan and a combine operator in MP and Sultan is studying in BA second year PG College, Jhalawar, Rajasthan” said Mr Bhullar and added that Sultan indulged in the drug smuggling due his poor fiscal condition as the latter stated in his statement.
The Police Commissioner said that three of them have been booked under sections 18, 25, 61 and 85 of NDPS Act and they would be interrogated further about the persons to whom they were going to supply the contraband.
