Jalandhar February 28 (Jaswinder Azad)- Kanya Maha Vidyalaya- the Autonomous and Heritage Institution, Jalandhar celebrated National Science Day under the Star College Status. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Prof. Gurcharan Kaur from Department of Biotechnology, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. She gave the talk on “Healthy Ageing” and asserted the importance of healthy lifestyle in today’s scenario. She also suggested to include healthy diet, exercise, meditation and intermittent fasting for healthy lifestyle. A workshop was also organized as part of Science Day where BMI was calculated of Non Teaching women staff and students of the college. Other guests of honour were Dr Rakesh Sudan and Dr Burhan Wani from Shriman Hospital, Jalandhar. Dr Rakesh Sudan, a renowned cardiac surgeon imparted knowledge on heart disease, its causes and preventions. Dr Wani, a renowned Oncologist, gave importance to healthy living for the prevention of cancer and highlighted the importance of screening methods for early diagnosis of the disease. Both the guests also had interactive session with the students in which the expert gave answers to the student’s queries. KMV also organized a Poster Presentation competition on ”Innovation in Sciences” among graduate students on this occasion. Principal Prof. (Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi thanked all the resource persons and lauded the science faculty for organizing this event. She averred that science has made life very comfortable & the wonders of medicine have relieved man from the various diseases and illnesses. Dr Updesh Kaur, Mrs Sadhna Tandon, Dr Manju, Dr Neetu and the other science faculty members were also present on the occasion.
