Jalandhar March 4 (Jaswinder Azad)- Kanya Maha Vidyalaya- the Heritage & Autonomous Institution, Jalandhar organized an extension lecture on “Arsenic Remediation in Water Based on Adsorbents” under DBT Star College Scheme. The lecture was organized by the PG Department of Chemistry. The resource person for the lecture was Dr. Nagendra Babu, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemical Sciences, School of Basic and Applied Chemistry, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda. He highlighted that the water pollution is becoming a serious problem these days and sincere efforts in this regard is essential so that the problem can be tackled efficiently. He also enlightened the students as to how the arsenic pollution is affecting the economy of Punjab and also sensitized the students about the health hazards of arsenic in drinking water. He further explained the various methods of arsenic removal from water and summarized that one of the beat ways to remove the impurities from water is adsorption. He also threw light on the various factors affecting adsorption and briefed the students about the different types of adsorption isotherms. He guided the students to concentrate their research for the sustainable development of the environment. Principal Prof.(Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi thanked the resource person and also lauded the efforts of the PG Department of Chemistry. She averred that this type of extension lectures play a vital role in making the students aware about the environmental issues and also motivates them to keep their environment clean and green. She further maintained that this type of activities are a regular feature in our college as in KMV the students are provided with the most suitable environment for their overall personality development.
