BANS HARVESTING OF PADDY THROUGH COMBINE MACHINES FROM 7 PM TO 9 AM
Jalandhar October 19 (Jaswinder Azad)- Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma today exhorted the farmers to refrain from harvesting paddy between 7 pm to 9 am for avoiding high moisture content in the crop which ultimately leads to delay in procurement of their produce.
The Deputy Commissioner, while presiding over a meeting to review ongoing paddy procurement operation here at his residence, said that farmers should avoid this practice which would increase their botheration in mandis while selling the crop. He said that the moisture content increases during the night time and if harvested during night time the farmers may face problem in procurement of their grains in the mandis. In wake of this situation, Mr. Sharma appealed to the farmers’ to bring moisture free grains to the market adding that the agriculture department must make the farmers about this to avoid any sort of inconvenience to them.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner vide the powers exercised under section 144 of CRPC has banned the harvesting of paddy through Combine machines from 7 pm to 9 am. He said that even only those harvesting combines must be used which have BIS certificate. Mr. Sharma said that since the starting of procurement of grains in the district from October 1 in the state, around 2.30 lakh metric ton paddy has arrived in the mandis across the district out of which 2.28 lakh metric ton has been purchased by the various agencies. He said that till now around 75% of the total procured grains have been lifted so far.
On the occasion District Food and Supply Controller Mr. TS Chopra, District Mandi Officer Mr. Varinder Khera and others were also present.
