Seminar on Bio processing and bioremediation organized at HMV

Jalandhar December 11 (Jaswinder Azad)- Biotechnology department of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya organized one day seminar on Bio processing and Bioremediation under the able guidance of Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen. On this occasion, Dr. Sachin Kumar, Deputy Director, National Institute of Renewable Energy (NIRE), Kapurthala was a resource person. He was welcomed by faculty members of the department. He discussed all the treatments which are being used for biorefining of lignocelluloses biomass for biofuels and value added products in India. He said that 80% of crude oil is being imported from other countries and if we start making biofuels from agriculture, industrial and domestic, we will be able to report it. Brazil and USA are the largest bioethenol producing countries and we are still lagging behind because of lower etherol production. Brazil is blending ethanol with petrol for vehicles and if we also try to follow the same, then we can get rid of harmful gases like carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide that get emitted through vehicles. He also gave details about metabolic engineering and genetic engineering. He also made students familiar about the innovative work done by NIRE. On this occasion, Dr. Jitender Kumar, HOD Biotechnology, Dr. Anjana Bhatia, Mr. Sumit Sharma, Dr. Monica Mahajan, Mrs. Meenakshi were also present.
