Seminar on Goods and Services Tax: An Overview at HMV

Jalandhar March 25 (Jaswinder Azad)- Commerce Club of PG department of Commerce and Management organized a one day seminar on Goods and Service Tax: An Overview in order to aware the students about the practical knowledge of GST. The programme began with the lighting of the lamp and DAV Gaan.
College Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen and Mrs. Binoo Gupta, Incharge Commerce Club offered green welcome to the resource persons – Mr. Shalinder Singh, State Tax Officer, Ludhiana, Dr. Major Harbhajan Singh Naghi, State Tax Officer, Ludhiana and Mr. Sumit Thaper, State Tax Officer Jalandhar.
Mrs. Binoo Gupta, Coordinator of the event formally welcomed the guests. She said that Commerce Club of the department remains vibrant by conducting the various workshops and seminars in order to provide exposure to students in different fields. This seminar focuses on the trending topic GST and will give practical knowledge to the students apart with the academic knowledge. She further added that GST is an effort of Economic Integration of India by creating one tax, one market and one nation. College Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen praised the efforts of the Commerce department for the success of the event. She said that the motive of the seminar is to provide practical knowledge to the students, so that when they step into the real world, they can have edge over their competitors. Vision of the programme is to give something extra to the students so that they can give complete knowledge about the trending concept GST.
In technical session I, an overview of GST act and its components were discussed. The resource person, Mr. Shalinder Singh, taught the students when and how to register under the GST act. The various concepts of the supply Inter State Supply, Intra State supply, supply in territorial waters, composite and mixed supply etc. were also explained. The session was followed by an interactive session.
In technical session II, various provision of input tax credit was discussed. The resource person told that how and when ITC is claimed. The concept of E-way bill was explained and how E-way bill is created on GST website was told to the students by performing the same on the projector screen. After that the various concepts like method of making payments, steps to generate a challan TDS, TCS, Return filling and GST portal and ecosystem were explained. At the end, an interactive session was conducted in which the doubts of the students were cleared by all the resource persons. Best five queries were given prizes. Vote of thanks was presented by Mrs. Binoo Gupta. She told that the seminar was conducted for B.Com. II, III, BBA III and M.Com. I and II students. Total 350 teacher and students delegates participated in the event and gained immense knowledge about GST. Stage was conducted by Ms. Karishma. Organizing Committee of the event included Dr. Mrs. Kanwaldeep kaur, Convener, Mrs. Binoo Gupta, Coordinator Ms. karishma and Mrs. Bhawna. On the occasion, Dr. Seema Khanna, Mrs. Meenu Kundra, Mrs. Kajal Puri, Mrs. Savita Mahendru, Mrs. Shefali Kashyap, Dr. Minakshi Duggal, Mrs. Yuvika, Mrs. Ritu Bahri, Ms. Anjali, Ms. Priyanka, Ms. Sonal, Mrs. Anchal, Mrs. Subha, Mrs. Maha and Mrs. Rishika were also present.
