Jalandhar September 28 (Jaswinder Azad)- It has become very important to provide stress free, child centered and holistic education to the budding minds for their successful future. Keeping this in view, a Two-Day workshop was conducted on ‘Capacity Building Programme in Social Science’ by the Central Board of Secondary Education in Cambridge International School for Girls. The resource persons were Mr. Kanwaljeet Singh Randhawa and Ms. Veena Singh. The capacity building programme aimed at developing understanding of various concepts of the subject matter and attitude of open- mindedness, inquiry and perseverance.
As CISFG strongly believes in becoming eco- friendly, so forging ahead the idea of Green School, we have taken the pledge to plant 50,000 trees in and around the school. In this regard, an initiative was taken by Cambridge Students in providing the necessary material to the participants in the paper bags for this workshop and saying no to plastic bottles and using glass bottles.
The session was started with the lamp lighting ceremony to make the day a blessed one.The session highlighted the content which aimed at raising students’ awareness through critically exploring and questioning of familiar social events.The resource persons focused on the challenges faced by Social Science Teachers at the Secondary level. Also, various strategies were discussed to equip the teachers with the ability to deal with some difficult topics effectively.The session was well-structured and several pertinent issues were dealt with. The workshop threw light upon the diverse concerns of society and included a wide range of concerns drawn from the disciplines of History, Geography, Political Science and Economics. The mentors also enlightened the teachers with the revised changes in CBSE and the assessment policies. The educators got a hand on experience through various worksheets, handouts, audios, videos and activities.
The teachers thoroughly enjoyed the lively sessions on various aspects of Social Science syllabus. The Director Ms. Deepa Dogra, the School Principal Ms. Kiranjot Dhillon and the Vice Principal Ms. Preeti Sharma who have always been a pioneer in the field of education cordially thanked the resource persons for their valuable input. It was an elucidative and interactive workshop which made all the participants actively involved in all the activities.
