Jalandhar October 28 (Jaswinder Azad)- The prestigious Youth Festival (C-Zone Colleges, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar) kicked off with full fervor and zest in the campus of Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar. Shri Varinder Kumar Sharma IAS, Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar was the chief guest on this momentous occasion while Padamsree Pargat Singh also graced the program as the special guest. Sardarni Balbir Kaur, President College Governing Council, S. Jaspal Singh Waraich Joint Secretary, College Governing Council, College Principal Dr. Gurpinder Singh Samra and Dr. Jagjit Kaur Director, Youth Welfare Department Guru Nanak Dev University gave a flowery welcome to the chief guest and the dignitaries gracing the stage. Speaking on the occasion, Shri Varinder Kumar Sharma (IAS) emphasized the role played by such youth platforms for the personality development of students. Principal Dr. Gurpinder Singh Samra lauded the extension of youth festival events to the college sphere which would subsequently enhance the unity among colleges and universities whilst also expressing his best wishes to all the participants of the youth festival. He also proudly mentioned the fact that the college has played as the host of youth festival after 25 years with the previous installment taking place in the year 1993 and the current edition is seeing a mammoth participation of over 2000 students. Former faculty member of the college, former dean cultural affairs and former registrar GNDU Amritsar, Dr. Inderjeet Singh was also honored on the occasion.
The opening day of the youth festival saw competitions such as Bhangra, Group Song, Shabad/Bhajan, Vaar Gayan, Kavishari, Painting on the Spot, Photography, Cartooning, Poster Making, Collage, Clay Modelling and Installation. The results of the opening day were as follows:
Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar bagged first position in Bhangra followed by DAV College Jalandhar and Apeejay College of Fine Arts Jalandhar on the other two podium places. Simerjeet Singh from Lyallpur Khalsa College was adjudged as the best dancer from the Bhangra performances. Rahul (DAV College, Jalandhar) and Karamjeet Singh Karma were recognized as the top two performers respectively in ‘Boliyaan’ genre.
In Group Song, Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar and Apeejay College of Fine Arts Jalandhar bagged first position, second rank was jointly held by Mata Gujri Khalsa College Kartarpur and SD College Jalandhar while the third rank was jointly held by DAV College Jalandhar and KMV College Jalandhar.
In the Group Shabad/Bhajan category, the results saw Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar as the joint winner with SD College Jalandhar with DAV College Jalandhar and Mata Gujri College Fatehgarh Sahib as the runners up while Apeejay College of Fine Arts Jalandhar, HMV College Jalandhar and Janta College Kartarpur bagged the final spot on the podium.
In Vaar Gaayan, the results saw HMV College Jalandhar and Lyallpur Khalsa College Jalandhar as the joint toppers, second rank went to Apeejay College of Fine Arts Jalandhar and SD College Jalandhar while the third position was bagged by Mata Gujri Khalsa College Kartarpur. In ‘Kavishri’ the topmost rank was held by Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar, second by Mata Gujri Khalsa College Kartarpur and the third by DAV College Jalandhar. Painiting on the Spot competition saw DAV College Jalandhar as the winner, GNDU Regional Campus Ladhewali and HMV College Jalandhar on the second rank while Lyallpur Khalsa College for Women, Jalandhar and Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar jointly on the third position. CT Institute of Higher Study, Shahpur took first rank in Photography, second was shared by Lyallpur Khalsa College with HMV College Jalandhar and the third was taken by Lyallpur Khalsa College for Women Jalandhar along with SD College for Women Jalandhar. The top position in Cartooning competitions was held by Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar along with Apeejay College Jalandhar as joint winners followed by Lyallpur Khalsa College for Women Jalandhar and Mata Gujri Khalsa College Kartarpur respectively.
In Poster Making category, Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar was joined by Apeejay College Jalandhar as the winner and BD Arya Girls College Jalandhar joined by KMV College Jalandhar as joint second while Lyallpur Khalsa College for Women Jalandhar bagged the other two spots.
Collage making saw the first rank of Apeejay College, Jalandhar followed by Lyallpur Khalsa College Jalandhar and DAV College Jalandhar jointly second with KMV College and HMV College jointly on the third rank.
In Clay Modelling category, Apeejay College, Jalandhar was the outright winner while second position was held by Lyallpur Khalsa College Jalandhar with BD Arya Girls College Jalandhar grabbing the third rank.
DAV College, Jalandhar took first rank in Installation competition, second was held by Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar and the third was taken by Apeejay College, Jalandhar and KMV College Jalandhar.
The second day of the Youth Festival on October 29th is scheduled to hold events such as Folk Orchestra, Fancy Dress, Skit, Geet/Ghazal, Drama, Folk Song, Classicals, Debate, Poetry Recitation, Fulkari and Rangoli.
